Hamburger Festival
This year I decided to take a vacation that was out of the ordinary and an event that I would totally appreciate. Well my love for burgers is no secret to anybody that hangs with me for more than fifteen minutes. Akron Ohio host the “Hamburger Festival” every year and after seeing a spot on the Food Network Channel I knew I was going to attend the worlds greatest celebration of the patty smothered with onions, ketchup and sometimes cheese on a bun food.
Saturday and Sunday Morning the buzz was downtown as they closed 2 city blocks and 25 vendors fired up the grills while tomato and onions met the sharp knives of the prep cooks.
At 11:00 am the crowd entered the gates and purchase full or half burgers, mammoth onion rings, lemon aid and ice cream. Live music filled the air along with the aroma of sixty plus grilles and fryers. All the festival proceeds went to the Akron Children’s Hospital, which helped me, get over the guilt of eating so much.
The greatest part of the weekend was the hamburger cook off. Each Burger Master could submit their best creation for judging and awards where given to the best tasting and creative burgers. Bobbing for burgers and the crowning the Miss Hamburger Festival where some of the contest with prizes.
This weekend was real Americana. It was a great community with great people celebrating great food.
